Family
I've been blessed with an incredible family. Marianne, my wife since 1982 has
been by my side through thick and thin. This year was our
26th anniversary! We can't be that old, can we?? She makes me
laugh and keeps me grounded. She is also one of the best moms I've ever seen. We
are unbelievably blessed to have 3 wonderful boys... well, they're wonderful
most of the time.
This older pic was taken in July '06 when we went on
vacation to Florida. I left it up so you could see what a difference a year
makes. Wow!
Garen
graduated from Plano East Senior High
School and is now studying at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN where he plays Bass Trombone
and has declared music as his major.
He placed 5th in the state for Jazz auditions last year. If you know anything
about the band programs in Texas, you know that is quite an accomplishment. He
was also in the Wind Ensemble as a part of the Greater Dallas Youth
Orchestra program. He has played with Crosswinds, a Christian Jazz Big Band
and Slideshow, a local trombone choir made up of professionals, educators and a
few select students. We'll see if college keeps him as busy as high school did!
I think facebook keeps him busier than either of those did. :)
Tanner is enjoying his high school
experience as a junior now at Plano East Senior High. Tanner has constantly been in a battle
for first chair in the Euphonium section. He is
also playing the trombone as well so he can participate in the Jazz
ensembles at school as well as the Nazz Jazz concerts that we play annually at
our church. Tanner made the Philharmonic Orchestra as a part of the Greater
Dallas Youth Orchestra program this year. Way to go, tan-man!
Lanson has become the social magnet for Carpenter Middle School. He is the social chairman for every group
in which he participates. The newest instrumentalist in the family, Lanson is in
his third year of playing the tuba. He's
held first chair for a little over
two
years now. Not too bad! We may have to build an extra room to house all
the LARGE instruments we now have at home! In addition to band, Lanson practices
with the football team even though he can't participate in any of their games...
at least not in the way you think. While his football team is on the field in
pads, Lanson is in a Cowboy costume on the sideline. Yes, Lanson is the school
mascot. he's a busy boy.
Our schedules keep us terribly busy, but we enjoy
spending time together especially when we get away and go fishing at one of our
"not too far away" retreats in East Texas. We are all involved in the music
ministry of the Richardson Church of the Nazarene where Marianne is leading
worship and Todd is Director of Music and Administration. Tanner is in the orchestra and Lanson
helps lead teen worship. Garen is now playing in the orchestra at the Trevecca
Community Church of the Nazarene in Nashville.
The
newest member of the family is possibly the most fun. After our difficult
decision of having to euthanize our last dog, our vet was instrumental in
helping us find a rescued Lhasa Apso. We got the call when she was just 3 months
old and couldn't resist this face. I never thought I'd have a walking mop for a
pet, but she stole our hearts immediately. Ask any member of the family if you
run into us, I think everyone has pictures in their phone of Sophie.
